Newton County, Californiais on the verge of a significant cost-cutting opportunity for the nation’s largest pharmacy chain, a company that has raised the price of generic drugs like AstraZeneca’s Zantac and Eli Lilly’s Novo Nordisk’s Nexium.
The company will begin offering the generic drug to the U. S. market in the second half of this year, which means that consumers can take advantage of lower prices on the brand-name drug for a much larger percentage of their income.
The retail price of the brand-name drug is approximately $4 to $9 per dose, with an average cost of $11 to $30 per dose, according to GoodRx, a drug pricing research company. The retail price of generic drugs like AstraZeneca’s Zantac is $9 to $24 per dose, which may increase if generic drugs are sold at a discounted price.
The company has been raising prices on AstraZeneca for years, and in recent months it has announced that the company will begin selling generic versions of the drug in the U. market next year. This will help it increase prices, although it will likely require the government to make it more affordable for consumers to access the drug.
